Sharifa Lakhani
CEO, Holmes Care Group
It’s fair to say that I have literally grown up with Holmes Care; my parents having founded the business back in 1982. From a very young age, I was aware of the importance of empathy, caring for others and the joy found in connecting with those either older or less physically able. I joined the business in 2014 initially as the company Solicitor, moving to Managing Director and then CEO. I hold an MBA from Imperial College London.

As CEO I am accountable for all aspects of the business. In order to fulfil this responsibility, my key duties are to lead, support and develop my senior team, ensure our teams are striving to provide high quality care and support to our residents and foster a culture of collaboration and operational excellence across the group.

Spending time with our residents and staff teams is a joy to me, as is the diversity of my working day. Being a family business, I take a genuine interest (and pride) in every aspect of it, whether it be sitting in on a Budget Planning Meeting, identifying Staff training initiatives, or judging a Children’s Christmas Card Competition. It’s certainly a varied role!

When I’m off duty, I enjoy spending time with my family, including trips to the park with my adventurous young son and his trusty sidekick, our Cavapoo Alfie. I also cannot function without Yorkshire Tea!

Alex Wilson
Managing Director
As the Managing Director, I am actively involved in the oversight of the day-to-day activities of various departments, ensuring smooth functioning and efficient utilisation of resources.

I provide guidance and support to department heads, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work culture. One of my key responsibilities is to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including residents, relatives, staff, commissioners, regulators and investors. I also represent the company at external meetings and events to promote our brand and reputation.

Coming from a nursing background, I thoroughly enjoy being in the homes and having contact with the residents and staff and I try to do this as often as possible. I have been very fortunate to have worked in supportive environments, with managers who have encouraged and developed me and I now enjoy seeing new talent coming through with the support and backing of the company.

My family are a great support and 4 of us are nurses so they understand the challenges of the care side of the business.

When I am off-duty, I enjoy cooking and especially Indian food, which is a throwback to when I lived in the nurse’s home among Mauritian Indians, who were great cooks. Increasingly I am spending time in the garden, growing fruit and vegetables, accompanied by my two assistants, Isa and Buddy, my two Cockapoos, who unfortunately sometimes dig in areas that were not part of my plans!

To all the staff at Almond View - a big thank you for looking after Mum, with such kindness and dedication. Despite living 400 miles away, I always had a good feeling that she was in good hands. Bankview Care Home

Thank you for the excellent level of care that my father, Frank Boyle, has received. Bankview demonstrated for us the template for a care home and how it should feel and be run. Friendly, welcoming, excellent care levels, length of time staff remain loyal to the home and above all a clear and comforting atmosphere of great leadership.

K Macdonald in memory of my Aunt Jean

I can't exaggerate the admiration I have for the management and staff of Craigielea. I've never experienced so much patience, coaxing, kindness and care. These people share their lives and emotions, laugh and cry and mourn for the people who entrust themselves to care.

Craigielea Care Home

J Ellis in memory of Steve

The staff talked about my best friend being an inspiration to them, despite his illness It made me change my approach with him, instead of being despondent and sad, I spoke with him the way we had always been with each other. The staff saw him as a person.

Craigielea Care Home

Shelagh Goldie

My uncle, who is a retired GP, recently visited Dad on a trip over from Canada and commented that Craigielea is one of the best places he has ever seen in his experience of elderly care units. Very homely, calm, relaxing and wonderful staff. Keep up the fantastic work you do!
