Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw were busy celebrating Care Home Open Day on Friday 16th June, with residents, families and friends, and staff working within the home.
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative, which connects care homes with their local communities, with the aim of challenging misconceptions about care and showing people the excellent services that are available at the heart of their community.
With Care Home Open Day’s emphasis on the importance of connecting with local communities, Manager of Beechwood Care Home, Cathy Togneri invited MP Marion Fellows and Claire Beau from Alzheimer Scotland to the event; to promote the development of lasting relationships, and to encourage intergenerational rapport, in line with the ‘Friendship’ theme for 2017.
Guests to the home were presented with a glass of champagne on arrival, and shown to the dining room where staff had made canapes, and a tasty home made cake to commemorate National Care Home Week.
Entertainment was in full swing in each unit of the home as staff had specially organised singers, magicians and an accordionist to perform on the day; working extremely hard to incorporate the ‘Friendship’ theme into their activities and ensuring there was an opportunity for everyone to join in.
Manager of Beechwood Care Home, Cathy Togneri said “Care Home Open Day gives us the opportunity to showcase the home, it also gives people the chance to come and talk to the team and the residents to get a feel of what life is like here. We strive every day to enrich the lives of our residents so are pleased we are given the opportunity to demonstrate this to our visitors during Care Home Open Day, we were delighted that this event was made even more special with Marion and Claire in attendance.”
MP Marion Fellows said “ I was delighted to visit Beechwood Care Home on Friday as part of their open day celebrations. It was lovely to meet with the Manager, Cathy Togneri and join in with the various activities and sing songs.”
