Since joining the home as Manager in 2016 Cathy has been working tirelessly to develop new initiatives for residents including Dementia walks, Drama Workshops and Family café days. These initiatives and improvements also lead to the homes improving inspection performance, from “adequate” in 2016 to “good” in 2017 before finally achieving a “very good” rating in both 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Cathy was delighted to hear she had been recognised for her work saying “I am very proud to have been shortlisted, every day we strive to enable people to have happy and fulfilled lives. To win this award would be a true testament to our aims and aspirations at Beechwood”
While Cathy has been recognised for her leadership skills Billy, the maintenance man at Beechwood, has also been recognised for his dedication to the home and its residents, receiving a nomination for the ‘Ancillary Worker Award’.
Billy’s inspirational work for the home goes way beyond that of his regular role of maintaining the upkeep of the environment and grounds. Billy has been recognised for his work of engaging with residents at Beechwood and going above and beyond to support the residents, by being involved with local outings to the Ice Rink, as well as creating and hosting new activities including Fishing Groups and Wrestling Matches.
Billy had said he was not expecting the nomination saying “I really wasn’t expecting to get to finalist stage, I just feel like I am doing my job so it’s a huge honour to have been recognised in this way. I’ve got my fingers crossed for the awards ceremony in November”
Following their nomination both Cathy and Billy will be interviewed by a select panel of specialists before attending the awards gala on November 14th in Newcastle where they will find out if they have won the prestigious award.
