What does physical impairment mean?
People with physical impairments will generally have difficulty with mobility, movement and speech, and can find it hard when using their hands. They may also have trouble with coordination when grasping and moving objects, particularly in precise movements (manual dexterity). They may constantly need the use of a wheelchair, or just from time to time.
Some possible causes of physical impairment and physical disabilities
Physical disability or impairment may have occurred at birth (congenital) or could have been caused by a condition, or possibly something that happened later in the person’s life (acquired disability).
There are many possible causes that contribute to physical impairment, such as having an injury, pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, amputation, cerebral palsy, heart disease, muscular dystrophy, respiratory disorders, epilepsy and other physical limiting conditions.
About physical impairment care in our care homes
We’re here to help
At all our Holmes Care Group homes, our friendly, trained, qualified teams and professional staff provide a 24 hour care and support system for all physical impaired patients; giving them assistance with everyday routines, like professional and safe administration of medications, help in the morning out of bed, getting dressed, assistance with mobility, and encouragement with eating and drinking.
Care plans for individuals with a physical impairment at our care homes
In all our services, we work with each resident to formulate a care plan, which ensures the care we provide is tailored to the needs of that person. At Holmes Care Group, we aim to address each residents' individual and varying requirements, so that everyone we care for, feels completely supported in every aspect of their life.
At Holmes Care Group, we know ‘peace of mind’ is an important factor in choosing a care home
Keeping physical impaired residents safe, comfortable and happy is a priority, as well as giving them a feeling of ‘being at home’. It’s also good to keep busy, which is why daily activities and weekly events are organised in and out of the care home. The interactive and social side of our activities help to give residents a better sense of independence and normality; well-being is a priority at Holmes Care Group!
