If you, a friend or a family member is considering a care home
There are many options to consider whilst making the decision of choosing a care home for you, a family member or a loved one.
Difficulty in living alone
Some older adults struggle with day to day activities at home on their own, and still find it hard, even when there is help and care at hand from relatives and friends, or visiting carers.
This can include things like difficulty getting up in the morning and to bed at night, eating properly and personal hygiene.
They may have lost a partner or the help that was once provided by a neighbour or friend. Feeling lonely, depressed or isolated, or in some cases advancing dementia, can be causing them difficulty to live safely at home.
Needs assessment
A needs assessment will be made by social services at your local council, the assessment will look at the person's physical, mental and emotional needs, and can result in a decision to provide or recommend services (such as a care home) for the person you look after.
A medical condition
An older adult, needing 24 hours a day specialist nursing care and treatment for a complex medical condition; this can include an illness, after having a bad fall, or recovery after an operation.
